7:50 PM, June 8, 2007. Rodger Jacobs Outside Vesuvio.
Photo snapped by Klieger, without my knowledge, using an Olympus FE230/X790. Sure would like to get a print of this, considering that there are only a small handful of photographs of me in existence. I despise having my picture taken — no, I don’t believe a camera lens steals your soul — so the only good images of me are candid images like this.

I like that picture. Looks good on ya.
I have a couple pictures of you and the Scotts together. I’ll have to send you a print if I ever get any… or maybe anyway if you want…

Yes, I’d love to have prints of those pics, David. A memorable evening. The Sizzler in Atwater Village. I was in a bit of a mood that night, then came back to the hotel to discover that one of the residents had taken a header from his fifth floor balcony, killing himself while trying to flee police custody.

That is a good picture. I don’t like pictures either, I have never taken a decent picture in my entire life.
And candid as it is, it looks like you posed for it, weird.

I was thinking the same thing, Zel. It does resemble a posed photograph but it was completely candid.

Very nice. What’s cool is that it’s a good picture in general as well as being a good picture of you. I’ll see what I can do about getting prints done of the ones we have.

good composition of this–so remember what you were thinking about? Look deep in thought.

I agree, Julie. The photographer has an excellent eye for composition.
Scot, in June of last year Miss L and I were staving off eviction from our North Beach residential hotel (the not-so-grand Golden Eagle on Broadway)and Janet Clyde, the co-owner of Vesuvio, offered me a part-time gig as doorman to keep the wolves at bay. I was also suffering from writer’s block, an afflicition I had previously dismissed as being impossible, and I was drinking like a fish, though never on the job. In short, I was probably having some fairly dark thoughts.

I didn’t even recognize you when I first saw it. I’ve never met you in person, only in photos. But I figured how many good-lookin’ guys, with a cane, hang around the Vesuvio door?

Not many, Kitty. I forgot to give you props for discovering this photo on Flickr over the weekend. Thanks ever so.

Beautiful picture. Easy to get a print (just learned this from a youngster the other day). Put it on a CD. Take it to the drugstore or wherever people drop off camera film. They’ll return it as a print — just as though you’d dropped off a roll of film.

Thanks, Michael. Miss L mentioned the same thing to me just moments ago. Synchronicity.
Nice to see you around these parts.

Photos are always hit-as-hit-miss. That’s not bad. Get it if you can. I have a feeling I’ll see in Vegas.

John! Have you been out on a book tour? We haven’t seen your pleasant mug around here for awhile.

Love the photo! It works like a great fashion print. The colors are great; the urban shop, the easy fonts, the turquoise but with il tricolore too, and a conversational quote—it’s not a photo, it’s an Italian scarf!

The photographer definitely has a painter’s eye, Joseph.
