Time For A Theme Change

Word Press logoI’ve been very happy with the Word Press theme called Light that I have been using for the last few months. Yesterday Joseph Mailander left the following comment:

“You may be aware of this, but the blog seems not to be wrapping text well on my powerbook (which is admittedly old). There’s an enormous empty margin or column on the left side of the page. I’m running it through the latest Firefox, though. There’s a lot of white space on the left side, apparently from the way the tabs wrap. The posts start at a point about midway between left and right side.

“In IE on the Powerbook, it’s the precise opposite—the text is flush left on the page, and there’s a wide margin on the right.

“I mention it because one time MartiniRepublic was crashing older machines and nobody told me for about two months; not helpful.”

Everything appeared okay in my IE browser but when I activated Firefox, I saw what J.M. meant. Jesus. What a mess. So I dropped a line to Word Press and they said:

Hi Roger,

I’m awfully sorry to say that this is a result of this theme’s dealing with your long page titles having caused the navigation to spill onto two rows. I’ll pass this on to have it looked into but I’m afraid that you may indeed have to look into changing themes for the moment.

I’m terribly sorry about that

The “pages” referenced are those tabs at the top of the layout. And there might be a correllation between this browser interface issue and a slight drop in traffic that commenced a few weeks ago. Thanks, Joseph, for bringing this to my attention. Looks like I have to shuffle things around here a bit. Damn.

it was like that for awhile–back to normal now.

That’s because I shortened the titles of the pages, Scot, but I opted for a theme change anyway. I like this one. It’s called Contempt.
